Abstract
A clinical review is made on thirty-eight sets of twin births delivered at this hospital during the five years and eight months period from January, 1968 to August, 1973, and the following results are obtained.
The ratio of twin births to all births is 1:64, and the distribution of maternal age and parity is concentrated on the young twenty and nulliparous bracket.
As far as the zygosity is concerned, monozygotic, single ovum twin is pre dominant occupying over two-third of them.
The mode of delivery is predominantly natural, and the birth interval between the first and second twin is within fifteen minutes in most of the cases. The same sex is more common than the different sex.
The prematurity rate is 63.3 per cent and the total perinatal mortality is 6. 55 percent. In maternal complications, hypertensive toxemia is top-ranking in this series.
